Nausley was a recent Doug Ducey appointee (2021), replacing Sarah Heinrich. According to his executive summary as submitted to the Senate, he holds a veterinary degree from the University of Missouri. He's worked at a variety of veterinary hospitals, including as hospital director or head clinician of the Veterinary Emergency Service, the Canyon Pet Clinic, and Briarcrest Veterinary Care Center; he also owned the latter two facilities. He also served as a curriculum developer and instructor at the Pima Medical Institute in the early 1980s.
His 2022 Senate committee hearing was under two minutes in length, including both reading his statement and the actual vote. In his statement, Nausley notes that he moved to Arizona after graduating veterinary school and has practiced in the state for over 40 years, 35 of those as a practice owner. He says that he became interested in the nomination after a colleague and former unnamed Board member suggested that he apply. He told the committee that he very much enjoyed "that aspect of veterinary medicine" and hopes to impact it positively using his insight from 40 years of veterinary practice. The senators had no questions for him.
Nausley doesn't appear, at least in a public records search, to have a lot of gigs or side-hustles. He's listed under Craig A Nausley DVM PLLC beginning in 2019. There are also older listings for Nausley Veterinary PLLC and Briarcrest Properties LLC.
Pet-loving Arizona lawyer Cary Unkelbach credits Nausley for assisting in the creation of the Southwest Oasis Lab Rescue and waiting to get paid until donations started coming in. In the article, SOLR adoption coordinator Gigi Tambures joked that the organization makes it harder to adopt a dog than a child due to their selective requirements (link).
As of early 2023 Nausley is employed at Kachina Animal Hospital (link). His bio states that after running his own veterinary clinics, he decided to work at Kachina Animal Hospital on a part-time basis. He relates that he enjoys evidence-based medicine and has great competence in advanced diagnostics and procedures with a particular affinity for surgery.
